Same same but oh so DIFFERENT!
So I'm back in Australia! My trips are over. The transition back into Western society was/is ..... WEIRD! Everything in a way is the same and in another way completely different. As we grow and things around us change how do we keep up? There have been times I've found myself standing back and wondering where do I fit in and what should I do? Today I read the following verse:
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' (Matthew 22:37-39 NIV)
I realised that as the environments we live in change and people come and go into our lives; We can find stability in this passage of scripture. If we align our lives with God first and then learn to appreciate how God created us and truly love ourselves then you can not be shaken. It doesn't matter where you are or who you are with because it will be ok. Now the first part of the scripture loving God is the easier part. Anyone who has been brought to God through salvation would tell you that. It's the loving ourselves we struggle with the most. And anyone who has had self image, self worth or jealousy issues (let's face it this = all of us!) will tell you that it's impossible to love everyone. When reading this verse I've heard many preachers focus on doing good to others, accepting others etc. but I think the point of the second half of the scripture is to get us not to look inwards at ourselves and to work on ourselves so we can love people but to get that grace revelation that it's all from God.
