Once You've seen, you can't ignore.

I’m sitting in a random KFC in Denpasar, taking advantage of the free wifi. I just finished a meeting with a new friend I've made. She has vision to start a house for ex-prostitutes here in Bali and I'm helping her with some marketing stuff to see her dream come true, I’m really just making a brochure for her. My main focus here is still my work at Mercy.

We were just chatting and I realised that every charity I know of usually starts from one special encounter. People are so moved by the injustice one person endures or one specific people group and have to do something. It reminded me of one of Mother Teresa’s quotes
“If I look at the masses I will never act. If I look at the one, I will”
I feel like on this journey I have had many encounters with and they have all caused me to act but I’m left wondering what God’s plan is for me in the big scheme of things. My heart has been broken for orphans, refugees, women in terrible circumstances, people who are living in poverty but not only for those just here in Indonesia but also for those in Australia too. But I can’t help them all… or can I?

Have you ever thought your dreams are bigger than yourself? I definitely do and my friend I just had the meeting with feels the same. How do we deal with this natural sense of inadequacy?

Firstly I think we need to have motivation to actually do something about the injustice that breaks our heart. God created us all differently with different passions and desires. When you truly find what breaks YOUR heart, you have found your motivation.

Secondly we need a real revelation that with God we can do all things. That He is our strength, he gives us dreams that are unachievable on our own because then we must rely on him. As I always say, Nothing is impossible for God.

Some of us will never get past the stage of dreaming. The rest will see more than they imagined come to fruition. I wish I had a step by step manual on how people do it or one of those “Idiots guide to” books. Think of the multitudes of people we could save/ help/ care for if the equation for success was that simple.

I’m starting to get an idea of my “how”. My own individual way of achieving the dreams God placed on my life. It’s still far too early to share but I guess I just want to really encourage anyone who reads this, that you are more than capable because you are not alone. And there is no other you on this planet. There is someone out there in this big wide world that you were destined to help. What’s stopping you or holding you back? Make a plan to overcome that obstacle today because this world is a sad and dying place and we are called to light and life. You are needed! Think about what breaks your heart and do something about it.
